That post workout feelin’.

I know the resistance to taking action is strong. I’ve felt it. LOTS.

Whether we’re talking about getting up off of the couch to move my body, getting up earlier to set up your day on the right foot or prepping food for the day ahead.

Sometimes doing the things that will make you’re life easier/better in the future is really fricken hard to get yourself to do in the moment.

This being said, I've been moving my body fairly consistently all my life. Starting with years of swim team, shifting to more strength based workouts. Yet there are two biggies I’ve noticed.

  1. Without a coach or something keeping you accountable, it pretty DAMN hard to show up for yourself

  2. The feeling you get AFTER the workout is GOLD

The trouble is actually getting to that point!

It is actually so comical to me sometimes. I complain before the workout, I complain during the workout. I don’t want to, ew this sucks, who decided to do this, I want to be done! Immediately after my final reps, the final minute of the workout, my attitude does a COMPLETE 180. I’m satisfied, content, proud, smiling. That felt great! That was awesome. We killed it. What were we even complaining about. It’s crazy! Doing the thing is hard. and angering and elicits LOTS of complaining and sometimes dragging feet. But damn, that post workout feeling’ hits different.

You might be thinking….why the heck do you keep doing the workout if you complain, if you don’t want to? Why do this to yourself? The answer is simple. My brain now knows that if I do this, good feelings will follow. I’ve had enough experience to know that moving my body, lifting heavy things, challenging myself-leads to positive rewards.

Does that mean I leap out of bed every morning excited to move my body? Sometimes! But also sometimes it’s tough, and part of my forgets those blissful feelings. But by creating a movement routine, a habit- you will begin to remember those good feelings, the feeling of energy and satisfaction and being proud of yourself for working for you.

It doesn’t have to be some crazy workout, it doesn’t have to be the heaviest lift every time (actually it shouldn’t ). Just showing up and doing some movement begins to create that self efficacy within yourself and creates that link to that good ol feeling post workout:)

Now go out there and move ya body!

XO,

Mik
