Non-Negotiables.

Non-negotiable. The more I grow up, the more important I've come to realize non-negotiables are. You can have these things in all aspects of your life. Maybe it's holding boundaries. Maybe it's making sure you are surrounding yourself with people who share similar values to you.

Non-negotiable habits can be super powerful to incorporate into your life in order to live the life you desire. I've not only discussed them in length with my therapist, but with Robin as well.

Creating those healthier habits in your life can be daunting and overwhelming. Picking ONE thing to be that non-negotiable every day, every week that you do can simplify it!

A few of my non-negotiables?

My first one- MOVEMENT.

This one is huge for me. When I take too much time not moving my body, not only does my physical health worsen, but almost every time my mental well being declines as well. I get down on myself quicker, I lose energy, I get in a funky state of being. And I don't like it.

So I try to do one thing each day to move my body. Some days it's challenging myself and lifting heavy shit. Others, I take a long walk. Sometimes I do both and sometimes all I do is some light stretching in my studio apartment.

Doing something to get my mind focused on moving my body each and every day does wonders for my mind, body and soul.

My second and more recent non-negotiable?

BREATHING.

You may think-ok Mikayla good one. We do this all day every day without even thinking about it. And you're right!

We don't think about it, and it's how we stay alive. But creating MINDFUL and INTENTIONAL moments of breathing throughout our day is what I'm talking about.

I've begun meditating every morning for about 15 minutes right as I wake up (ok-well after I make my cup of Joe hehe).

No looking at my phone first. Just sitting on my couch and breathing. No judgement. Sometimes it's really calming and sometimes I'm grumpy and sometimes my mind is racing the whole time.

But it's allowed me to center and ground myself before my day even starts. And for someone who reacts quickly when things go off track during the day, this has allowed me to begin each day with a sense of calm.

Which carries me throughout my day differently than I normally would. And that's why it's one of my non-negotiables.

So you've heard mine, I'd love to know some of yours! OR maybe ONE that you want to start implementing. Remember, it doesn't have to be complicated, it doesn't have to stress you out. Pick something that you know makes you or will make you feel good and give it a shot. :)

Have a great rest of your week!

XO, Mik
