Are You Overwhelmed?
I want to be honest with you today. Overthinking can make us FROZEN. And to tell you the truth, that is how I have felt about writing this email to you. I've had so many ideas of what to say, so many ideas on how I should write it out, how I should create the layout, etc etc. That I became overwhelmed and ended up avoiding it. I've been frustrated with myself for weeks. "Why can't I just write a simple blog post” "Why am I not working hard on this"...The self judgement began to pile up, and HIGH.
Now today, I decided I'm just going to take action, and be honest about how I've been feeling.
This experience for myself about writing a blog post for you all has me thinking about how similar this sounds to moving our bodies.
Let me explain...
With social media, other people's opinions, all the chatter out there, it is easy to overthink movement and our health. When everyone is saying a different thing, some many contradicting opinions, it can lead us to overthink, and a lot of the times, FREEZE. And instead of taking action, doing one thing, we stop, freeze and don't do anything.
You may feel frustrated with yourself. Ask yourself the same questions I asked myself.... "Why am I not working hard on this" “Why can't I just (you fill in the blank)"
The self judgement we can place on ourselves is BRUTAL. Like we can be MEAN. And I'm saying this because I have fallen victim to this so many times in the past, and it still rears its head from time to time now. We can be so understanding and kind to others but when it comes to ourselves, we can't stop the bullying.
I'm here to tell you that your overwhelm is normal and isn't your fault. You not knowing where to start is not on you. It's the fault of social media and that anyone, anywhere can tell you their opinions and talk about them as fact. And it's confusing as hell!
Here are 2 actions steps you can take now to help yourself out of the overwhelm:
Take a step back. Take a moment to yourself. Close your eyes, take a deep breath. Take time off of whatever thing you are looking to for information and just BE. We can be taking in SO MUCH information in such short time spans that having a moment without intaking more info can do wonders for us. Get outside, meditate, journal-get out of your head and out of your screen
Find one small thing to do NOW: maybe it is to drink some water, go on a walk, workout for 5 minutes. Find something to do to move and feel better. Although the internet and people may be telling you that THIS WAY IS THE ONLY WAY, it most likely isn't. We are all human beings. We all live different lives. What works for one person, may not work for the other. Keep reminding yourself of that and take time to experiment and test things out. Keep doing the things that work, let go of the things that don't.
And remember, you won't always feel like this. Follow the two actions steps above and see how they help <3
Talk next time,
Mikayla
